- Followup-The reason for this error was due to the fact that my 2100max had version 1.0 loaded on the card (Yes I know all 2100maxe's SUPPOSIDLY have Ver 1.2 loaded). Navigon fresh won't work with ver 1.0 .Navigon is sending me a new card with ver 1.2 loaded. Their service I found to be very commendable and fast
- Did it resolve with the new card? Tech support sent me a new card with 1.0 software again. Then the next guy said that is correct for the max models (1.0). I still get invalid device definition, so the next tech support said 'format the card with FAT16, copy the files from the 'Mac or Other OS' download of FreshMaps. I did all that and still get invalid device definition.they are puzzled.
- followup. I inserted the new card and still received the error message. The Navigon they sent me was a 2120-Not 2100 that I ordered. I called tech support and they said the only difference was that 2120 includes Canada maps and that the 2120 was loaded with ver 1.2 .I asked why I get the error with fresh maps and He simply said there are no updates for ver1.2.I told him that the screen that came up should then say 'No updates available' instead of an error message.In short, I don't think they know why the error comes up.I think Fresh maps has a problem with 2120 max's.
- I went through the same bit. Called, spoke to tech support, they sent new card (with Canada/Mex.lol) and still had the same issue (invalid device). Called back and they told me to DL the 'Mac & Other OS' version of the Fresh Maps and load it, I did.same issue. I called back and they told me that the card was corrupt, Format it with FAT16 and then copy software to card again.which I did.same issue. No matter what, Navigon Fresh (build 1.4.6) always says 'invalid device definition'.
Anyway, you can always download the latest Maps/POI software by choosing the 'Mac & Other OS' version and just copy to your card.
BTW, I did replace both of 'their' cards with a SANDISK Exteme III 2GB card and it did get a little better response time :)
Bottom line.just like you I believe the 2100Max has issues with Navigon Fresh. - Seems strange that you and I are the only ones with this issue. BTW, Mine is a 2120max that is loaded with US and Canada maps although I originally ordered a 2100max from COSTCO.
- Why the h*** don't they just ship all units wth the Canadian maps?? My next unit will be a TomTom.

I have tried to use avigon Fresh on two Vista Ultimate machines and still this message. Anyone any clues?? - Hey guys just had this same problem but figured it out! I have a 5100 and was having the same issue with Fresh giving me an 'invalid device definition file' error.
The problem, as far as I can tell, was that I downloaded Fresh from the international Navigon site (i.e. navigon.com) instead of the US-local site (i.e. navigonusa.com). I uninstalled Fresh from my system and re-installed the version from the US site and it worked!
Navigon really needs to do a better job distinguishing the two sites, or redirecting you. The two sites are nearly identical but seem to operate independently. (For instance, if you register for MyNavigon on the international site the login will not work on the US site) After I discovered that the US site is different, everything fell into place! Hope this helps! - Freshmaps will still not work with the 8100T and Vista. I still get an invalid device definition. I spoke to Customer Support and he told me that Freshmaps will not work with the 8100T and Vista until some time in January when a new version of Freshmaps will come out. Until then, I can't update to the 4Q 2008 maps (here's an interesting bit of info he told me. he said that there was no change in the maps between 3Q and 4Q, so he said that what I had on the 8100T was the latest maps (3Q 2008)). Does that mean that you use up one of your downloads to get the same map twice?

Alex - The problem is that you need to install Microsoft Active Sync 4.5 or better on your computer, I searched hi and low before I found this solution and can't believe the Navigon Fresh software doesn't check your system for Active Sync and offer to download/install it for you, instead it makes you want to pull your hair out and return the product to the store.
- Sorry, I should have specified that Active Sync v4.5 enabled the Navigon Fresh application to work with my 2100 device on my Windows XP computer.
